About this activity
Calligraphy here isn’t about perfect characters on day one—it’s about posture, ink density, and how the brush “breathes.” In a quiet studio away from the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda crowds, you’ll grind ink (or use prepared ink for time), practice horizontal and vertical “bones,” and try a simple couplet in regular script with corrections you can photograph.
What you’ll do
- Intro to the four treasures: brush, ink, paper, inkstone—and why Xuan-style paper behaves differently.
- Seatposture and wrist vs. arm movement for newcomers.
- Three guided practice passes with individual stroke tweaks.
- Final short copy of an auspicious phrase; optional red “seal” stamp to finish.
